Thanksgiving Day

THANKSGIVING

Wake up this morning on Lake Seminole , day before Thanksgiving.
Got all the old people on my mind,
Thanksgiving days gone by.
All my old folks gone to the other side.
I remember uncles in the kitchen
toss-in' back shots, bad jokes and wild game in the pot.
Can't remember what I was thinkin' then, just a sprout, but I know what I'm thinkin' now.
Just an old movie I run backwards in my mind.
Never has been much I wanted to hang onto. Too often play the stranger.
It's Thanksgiving. S'pose I oughta feel sorry and sometimes I do.
Wild game in the pot, a merriment I've lost.
The broth gets murky when I stir it.
All my family's gone.
